Adolescence

When we talk about adolescence, we are referring to the group of individuals between the ages of 12 and 17 (plus 11 months and 29 days), a stage characterized by significant and rapid psychosocial, neurocognitive, physical, and sexual transformations that have a major impact on their future. Interventions at this stage focus on promoting health care practices, identifying exposure to risks, and detecting health problems early in order to provide timely management.
The objectives for the comprehensive assessment of this life course are:
- To assess and monitor health, comprehensive and multidimensional development (physical, cognitive, social).
- Identify early exposure to risk factors in order to prevent them.
- To detect early alterations that negatively affect health and the growth and development process, in order to refer them for timely management.
- To enhance the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial capabilities that allow the adolescent to achieve better results in their development.
- To enhance capacities, skills and practices to promote health care.
- Develop the care plan collaboratively with the adolescent user.
The following are the health activities that the user can access at our institution according to this age:
Comprehensive assessment procedures and consultations
- Health care by general medicine or family medicine (At 12, 14 and 16 years of age).
- Health care by general medicine or family medicine (At 12, 14 and 16 years of age).
- Health care by a nursing professional: (At 13, 15 and 17 years of age).
Early detection procedures and consultations
- Rapid treponemal test (Depending on risk exposure (unprotected sex)
- Rapid HIV test (Based on risk exposure (unprotected sex)
- HIV pre- and post-test counseling (Before the test is administered)
- Screening for anemia - Hemoglobin and Hematocrit (Once between 10 and 13 years of age and once between 14 and 17 years of age).
- Pregnancy test (In case of delayed menstruation or other symptoms or signs of suspicion).
Procedures and consultations for specific protection
- Health care by general medicine, family medicine or nursing for advice and control in contraception (From 14 years of age, on demand).
- Insertion of a contraceptive intrauterine device (IUD) (From age 14, on demand).
- Insertion of subdermal contraceptives (From age 14, on demand).
- Supply of oral and injectable contraception (From age 14, on demand).
- Fluoride varnish application (Twice a year, once per semester).
- Fluoride varnish application (Twice a year, once per semester).
- Prophylaxis and removal of bacterial plaque (Twice a year, once per semester).
- Dental calculus removal (As needed)
- Application of sealants (As needed)
- Vaccination (According to current schedule)
