It is a public organization, committed to generating a culture of healthy living in the population of the city of Medellín and the region, providing comprehensive and competitive health services through a wide hospital network; a human talent with a vocation for service, highly qualified, based on institutional values ​​and in harmony with the environment. 

Officially created on June 23, 1994, with the mission objective of providing health services to the poorest and most vulnerable population of the city, ESE Metrosalud was endowed with legal personality, its own assets and administrative autonomy, all under the supervision of a Board of Directors, whose president is the Mayor or his delegate, and the Management of the entity.  

To this end, ESE Metrosalud currently has 10 hospital units, 1 Mental Health Unit and 42 health centers that guarantee health coverage and care for the target population in the 16 communes and five districts into which the capital of Antioquia is territorially divided.
