Visual Health Strategy
Visual Health Strategy Seeing well means living better!
This strategy brings visual health promotion and prevention services to the territories, guaranteeing timely evaluations, access to optical aids and dignified care that positively impacts the quality of life of young people, adults and seniors in the District of Medellín.
Objective
To operate the inter-administrative agreement for the provision of services for the promotion and prevention of visual health, through comprehensive optometric evaluation and the delivery of custom-made visual medical devices, according to the needs identified in the beneficiary population.
How does it develop?
The strategy is being implemented in the 19 communes of the Medellín District, with a projected reach of approximately 19,000 people, including young people, adults, and senior citizens.
The process begins with territorial and community outreach, followed by the creation of a virtual registration form, through which interested people register according to their commune of residence.
In each territory, participatory budgeting is prioritized and implemented, ensuring the achievement of local goals and the proper distribution of allocated resources. Outreach programs are conducted in easily accessible community spaces, where the following activities take place:
Who is it aimed at?
The focus is on the population residing in the District of Medellín, distributed as follows: 75% of people between 13 and 59 years old.
- 25% of people over 60 years old.
How to participate or access?
To access the services of the Visual Health Strategy, it is necessary to register beforehand, which allows for organizing and prioritizing care according to the municipality of residence.
During the application phase, interested parties must:
- Complete the registration using the provided form.
- Present a recent utility bill (electricity, water or gas) as proof of residence in the commune.
This verification ensures that participatory budget resources are effectively allocated to the beneficiary residents and is part of the control, transparency and compliance actions of the guidelines of the Medellín District Health Secretariat.

The Visual Health strategy is implemented by Metrosalud, in conjunction with the Medellín District Health Secretariat, using Participatory Budget resources, as part of public health actions aimed at the comprehensive care of the population.
