Childhood, encompassing ages 6 to 11 years (plus 11 months and 29 days), is a crucial stage in the holistic development of children. During this period, they remain highly sensitive individuals requiring close health support, given their rapid physical, emotional, and social growth, as well as the vulnerabilities inherent in this stage of their lives.
The objectives for the comprehensive assessment of this life course are:
- To assess and monitor the health and comprehensive development (physical, cognitive, social) of children.
- To identify early exposure to or presence of risk factors in order to prevent them or refer them for timely management.
- To detect early alterations that negatively affect health and the growth and development process, in order to refer them for timely management.
- To enhance capacities, skills and practices to promote health care and strengthen the development of children through health information with parents and/or caregivers and children.
Below, we present the early detection and specific protection activities to which this population is entitled at ESE Metrosalud:
Comprehensive assessment procedures and consultations
- Health care by general practitioner or specialist in pediatrics or family medicine (At 6, 8 and 10 years of age).
- Health care by a nursing professional: (At 7, 9 and 11 years of age).
- Oral health care by a dental professional (which should be done every year).
Early detection procedures and consultations
- Screening for anemia - Hemoglobin and Hematocrit (Once between 10 and 13 years of age).
Procedures and consultations for specific protection
- Fluoride varnish application (Twice a year, once per semester).
- Prophylaxis and removal of bacterial plaque (Twice a year, once per semester).
- Application of sealants (As needed).
- Vaccination (According to the current schedule).
