Youth

When we talk about young people we are referring to the group of users between 18 and 28 years (plus months and 29 days), a stage of their lives where intellectual, physical, moral, economic, social and cultural autonomy is consolidated.
The objectives for the comprehensive assessment of this life course are:
- To assess and monitor the health and comprehensive development (physical, cognitive, social) of young people.
- Identify early exposure to risk factors in order to prevent them.
- To detect early alterations that negatively affect the health and the growth and development process of young people, in order to refer them for timely management.
- To enhance capacities, skills and practices to promote health care.
- Build the primary care plan in collaboration with the user.
Among the interventions or care included in the promotion pathways for maintaining the health of young people are the assessment of physical, cognitive and socio-emotional growth and development , nutritional and anthropometric status , eating practices , sexual and reproductive health , visual health , mental, emotional and social function , family dynamics, social context and support networks, among others.
The following are the health activities that a young person can access at our institution:
Comprehensive assessment activities
- Oral health care by a dental professional (Once every two years)
- Health care by general practitioner or family medicine (At 21 and 26 years of age)
Early detection activities
- Cardiovascular risk screening, fasting blood glucose, lipid profile, creatinine, urinalysis (All users in this age range).
- Rapid treponemal test (According to risk exposure - unprotected sex).
- Rapid HIV test (Based on risk exposure - unprotected sex).
- HIV pre- and post-test counseling (Each time the test is performed).
- Rapid test for Hepatitis B (Based on risk exposure - unprotected sex).
- Rapid test for Hepatitis C (Once at these ages, when a history of blood transfusions before 1996 is identified).
- Pregnancy test (In case of delayed menstruation or other symptoms or signs of suspicion).
- Cervical cancer screening (cytology). From age 20, screening is performed as needed based on medical criteria and evaluation of medical history and associated factors; and in accordance with the established cervical cancer screening procedure from age 26.
- Cervico-uterine colposcopy (According to screening test findings).
- Cervical biopsy (According to screening test findings).
Specific protection activities
- Health care by general medicine, family medicine or nursing for advice and control in contraception (From age 20, on demand).
- Vasectomy (From age 20, on demand).
- Sectioning or ligation of fallopian tubes by mini laparotomy (From age 20, on demand).
- Female sterilization (From age 20, on demand).
- Insertion of a contraceptive intrauterine device (IUD) (From age 20, on demand).
- Insertion of subdermal contraceptives (From age 20, on demand).
- Supply of oral and injectable contraception (From age 20, on demand).
- Supply of condoms (From age 20, on demand).
- Prophylaxis and removal of bacterial plaque (once a year).
- Supragingival scaling (as needed).
- Vaccination (According to the current schedule).
