Preventive and Interceptive Orthodontics
Preventive and Interceptive Orthodontics , operated by Metrosalud with participatory budgeting resources, seeks to identify and treat early alterations in the oral development of children , improving their oral health, well-being and quality of life from childhood.
Objective
To identify children with oral malocclusions, between 6 and 10 years and 364 days of age, in order to select them, carry out diagnostic aids, specialized evaluations by pediatric dentists, define a diagnosis and a treatment plan, and install maxillofacial orthopedic appliances that allow the defined therapeutic objectives to be achieved.
How does it develop?
The actions are implemented in the prioritized communes, through a careful and structured process.
- Patient selection in community settings.
- Verification of age and belonging to the commune through georeferencing.
- Request for diagnostic aids (x-rays, photographs and prints).
- Comprehensive clinical evaluation by a pediatric dentist.
- Design of the maxillary orthopedic appliance, according to the treatment plan.
- Custom-made device development in a specialized laboratory.
- Installation in a dental office, with education and instruction on use.
- Delivery of oral health kit, educational booklet and oral hygiene talk.
- Performing periodic checks (approximately 6 to 8).

Who is it aimed at?
To the boys and girls of the Medellín District who:
- They should be between 6 and 10 years and 364 days old.
- They present a malocclusion that is treatable with maxillofacial orthopedics.
- They reside in a commune or district prioritized by the strategy.
How to access?
In-person meetings are held in strategic locations within the prioritized municipalities, where the selection of beneficiaries takes place.
