Day care, well-being and comprehensive support for the elderly

The Gerontological Life Center Model provides daytime care and support to older adults, promoting their overall well-being, autonomy, food security, and the reduction of social isolation.


This model recognizes older people as subjects of rights and seeks to offer protective, humanized and dignified spaces that promote their quality of life and their active participation in the community.

What is the objective?

To provide comprehensive daytime care to people over 60 years of age, or from 55 years of age when their vulnerable condition warrants it, who have independent functional capacity and autonomy in decision-making, and who present food insecurity and/or social isolation. 

How is the Gerontological Life Center Model developed?

A Through three fundamental components that respond to the needs of older people: 

1. The food component strengthens food security, prevents malnutrition, and promotes healthy eating habits.

• A snack
• A balanced lunch, which covers approximately 43% of the daily calorie requirement

2. Biopsychosocial care component

It strengthens socialization, autonomy, emotional well-being, and active aging.
• They pick up seniors at designated collection points.
• They take them to the Centro Vida headquarters.
• At the end of the day, they return them to the meeting points.

3. Biopsychosocial care component: strengthens socialization, autonomy, emotional well-being and active aging.

• Comprehensive assessment of each senior citizen.
• Personalized intervention plans.
• Identification of physical, emotional, and social risks.
• Recommendations for care and well-being.
• Two daily group sessions.
• Activities tailored to the needs of the population.
• Development of recreational, therapeutic, and educational activities.

Who is it aimed at?

  • People over 60 years of age, or between 55 and 59 years of age if their vulnerable condition warrants it. 
  • Resident in the Special District of Science, Technology and Innovation of Medellín. 
  • People with independent functionality and autonomy in decision-making. 
  • People in situations of food insecurity and/or social isolation. 

How can I participate or gain access?

Admission to the Gerontological Life Center Model is done through an application and registration process, which includes verification of requirements and an in-person appointment at the headquarters where the service will be provided. 

Main requirements: 

  • Photocopy of the national identity card. 
  • Residence in Medellín. 
  • SISBÉN registration current version or census list (or proof of application if not up to date). 
  • Not to be an active beneficiary of other social services of the District that are equivalent to the model, except in special cases validated by supervision. 

Priority will be given to older people who have been beneficiaries of the Model in previous years.
