At Metrosalud, we work every day with a clear conviction: when life is at risk, time saves lives. Prehospital Care (PHC) is one of the most sensitive and decisive public health strategies in Medellín because it arrives first, acts promptly, and supports citizens in their most critical moments.
Objective
To guarantee the continuous and uninterrupted provision of health services through Prehospital Care in the components of emergencies, disasters, as well as comprehensive care for victims of sexual violence and the certification of non-violent deaths, contributing directly to the protection of life and the improvement of the quality of life of the population of the District of Medellín.
How does it develop?
Prehospital Care (PHC) refers to emergency medical assistance provided at the scene of an incident, such as traffic accidents, traumatic events, medical emergencies, or disaster situations.
Its main purpose is to stabilize the patient on site, perform the first vital interventions and ensure a safe and timely transfer to a health institution when the situation requires it.
The APH integrates actions of:
- Urgent medical attention.
- Search and rescue.
- Classification and initial management of patients.
- Assisted transfer to hospital centers.
Who is it aimed at?
To the entire population of the District of Medellín, without distinction, who face an urgent situation, emergency or disaster and require immediate health attention.
How can I participate or gain access?
Access to the Prehospital Care service is provided immediately through the Single Emergency Line 123.
Once the call is received:
- The situation is being assessed.
- The APH team dispatch is activated.
- Specialized personnel travel to the event location to provide the required assistance.
- This service operates permanently, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
